Did you know that there is a website where small business owners who are looking for funding are connected to 200 lenders? They can also access government grants through the site. The Finfind Easy website was created to meet the needs of small business owners who are looking for funding and the 200 lenders who are looking for entrepreneurs to whom they can lend money. (Image: Melissa Javan)Melissa JavanThere were 200 lenders in South Africa and the majority of people who were looking for funding did not even know this, said Darlene Menzies, CEO of Finfind Easy. Menzies was one of the speakers at the ninth annual National Small Business Chamber Summit. The summit was held on 15 and 16 February 2017. Menzies’ topic was “How to access more than 200 lenders for start-up and growth finance for your small business”.“Fast track your business”Topics discussed in summit sessions included “Rethink marketing for the digital age” and “Go global and grow your business”.Attendees showed much interest in sessions such as “Fast-track your business with social media”, filling the conference rooms to overflowing. Many sat on the floor to listen to speakers such as Leanne Rhodes. She talked about marketing your business on social media.According to the National Small Business Chamber (NSBC), 32,127 people had registered for the two-day conference by 7 February. Of them, 14,806 were existing business owners and 17,321 were about to start a business. Attendees also had access for example to the a business expo hosted at the summit.Perseverance, Passion and Persistence are the basis of [email protected]#nsbcsummit#flamBOYantSA pic.twitter.com/ioOi5S92zn— FlamBOYant_SA (@FlamBOYant_SA) February 16, 2017In less than 2 hours, a website was built for an SME! It asked entrepreneurs what the NSBC could focus on more. “The number one answer (was) access to finance. The survey also said that the majority of the people who applied for funding last year went to banks and the government.”The challenge of most entrepreneurs was that they did not know about other lenders, she said.Hundreds of lending products availableAccording to Menzies, there are 350 lending products in South Africa. “A lot of these lenders do not meet their KPIs (key performance indicators) because they are struggling to find SMMEs to whom they can lend.“They receive large volumes of loan applications, but only find a small percentage to lend to. They have a shortage of viable ideas. They’re lending to get a return,” she said. “They need to finance ready and bankable businesses.”Finfind Easy, she explained, was a website that connected entrepreneurs who were looking for funding with lenders. It was free and easy to use. The initiative is sponsored by USAid, the Small Enterprise Development Agency and the Department of Small Business Development. The site was updated daily, and included government grants and loan offerings.“It’s the only website of its kind in the country. We already have 5,000 users.”There were 64 funds available for starting a business, 109 funds available for growing a start-up, 26 funds available for completing a contract, 73 funds available for buying equipment, and 180 funds available for expanding a business, Menzies said.It meets your needsThe site asked questions of the user such as “How much do you need, how long have you run your business, what is the funding for, and what is your average turnover?”And there were no right or wrong answers. “If you are not profitable, there are funds for you. If you don’t have all the documents, the system will help you,” Menzies said. “Your company number is needed.”Small business owners could also learn about finance on the website, for example the different types of lenders and the different types of finance available. You can access the website, here.Would you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? Eden Hazard: Biggest difference between Real Madrid and Chelseaby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveEden Hazard admits expectations at Real Madrid are far greater than he experienced with Chelsea. The Belgian star sealed a £130million move to the Bernabeu this summer and has opened up on one of the most striking cultural differences he has spotted already. “At Chelsea when we lost, we were disappointed, like the fans, but I never felt it was a disaster, it’s different in Spain,” Hazard told the Champions Journal, ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.”I think that here the fans are really fans, football is everything to them and they need players to give everything, in England there aren’t so many fans.”Of course, people there like football and everyone be that young people, adults or teenagers are really interested in football, but they aren’t so fanatical about their teams.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say

Prescott shined again in Dallas’s 35-10 rout of the Cleveland Browns Sunday, completing 21 of 27 passes for 247 yards (9.1 per attempt), three touchdowns and zero interceptions. According to ESPN’s Total Quarterback Rating (QBR), Prescott had the NFL’s top quarterbacking performance of the week,1Pending stats from Monday night’s Seahawks-Bills tilt. the second time in nine weeks he’s claimed top honors. In addition to ranking highly in QBR, he also ranks highly in stats that focus more on production — meaning yards, touchdowns and first downs. According to expected points added (EPA) relative to both the league average and the replacement level, Prescott’s current eight-start run is better than all but one of Romo’s eight-game stretches — that same 2007 period mentioned above. Rather than riding his teammates’ coattails, Prescott’s play has been one of the driving forces behind a squad that ranks second in offensive EPA but only 14th in EPA on both defense and special teams. 19965-3-01662 PAA = Points above averagePAR = Points above replacementResults were filtered to remove stretches that included games contained in a higher-ranking stretch.Source: ESPN Stats & Info POINTS ABOVE… 2Andrew Luck2012399+23.3+54.467.0 YEARRECORDELO RATING Although we don’t have QBR before 2006, Prescott also has the third-highest adjusted yards per attempt of any qualified2Minimum 100 pass attempts (or about 12.5 per team game). rookie passer through his team’s first eight games since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. He trails only Mark Rypien and Dan Marino, and although those two produced their numbers in a less passer-friendly environment than today’s NFL, they also threw less than half as many passes as Prescott has. Given all that, it’s tough to find a QB in history whose career has gotten off to a faster start than Prescott’s.Prescott has played so well, in fact, that he’s put the return of incumbent Cowboys starter Tony Romo on hold — perhaps indefinitely. As a stathead, I never bought into those silly arguments that Romo isn’t clutch, or that Dallas could never win a Super Bowl with him under center. Underneath all the hot takes he attracts, Romo has been one of his generation’s finest quarterbacks and one of the most efficient passers of all time — even after adjusting for the high-octane passing environment of the modern game. In terms of individual accomplishments, Romo has few quarterbacking peers. And yet, the case can be made that Prescott’s first eight starts have been as good as any eight (consecutive) starts Romo made in his entire career. According to QBR, Romo’s best set of eight straight starts came in 2007, between Weeks 3 and 11 of the 2007 season, when Romo posted an 82.1 mark on QBR’s 0-to-100 scale while throwing to Terrell Owens. That was the sole eight-start stretch of Romo’s career that was better than the only eight NFL starts Prescott has ever made: 7Ryan Tannehill2012289+0.5+23.158.4 19927-1-01663 14Marcus Mariota2015324+5.9+31.251.6 20167-1-01595 19957-1-01723 Speaking of which, the Cowboys are also off to one of their best starts in recent memory. This is the first time Dallas has won seven of its first eight games since 2007, and only the second time since 1995, the last time the team won the Super Bowl. And the Cowboys’ current Elo rating (our pet metric for estimating a team’s strength at a given moment) through eight weeks is the third-highest it’s been since Dallas’s dynasty days of the mid-1990s.Prescott is hardly the only Cowboy having a great season. Running back Ezekiel Elliott also leads the NFL in rushing yards, helping to power the second-best rushing attack in the league according to EPA. And, given his track record and what we know about his recovery so far, Romo would likely also be successful if he were slotted into Dallas’s lineup. (Though individual football players are often so interconnected with each other that it’s difficult to predict what will happen to the team when personnel changes.)But right now, Prescott has made just about as strong a case as possible that the Cowboys should stick with him going forward. Not only has he produced one of the best-ever first halves by a rookie QB, but he has also instantly played as well as Romo ever has. Now the only question is what he has in store for the back half of Dallas’s schedule. 19974-4-01579 20096-2-01617 3Robert Griffin III2012320+18.7+43.763.6 Best Cowboys teams through 8 games by Elo Rating, 1992-2016 20077-1-01619
Senior running back Carlos Hyde (34) hurdles a defender during a game against Purdue Nov. 2 at Ross-Ade Stadium. OSU won, 56-0.Credit: Kaily Cunningham / Multimedia editorSince becoming the coach of Bowling Green in 2001, current Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer has never had a running back rush for 1,000 yards in a season. In that same time frame, OSU has had seven seasons where a running back reached the milestone, with Chris “Beanie” Wells and Antonio Pittman each doing so twice in back-to-back seasons. Now, as the end of the 2013 season rapidly approaches, senior running back Carlos Hyde is on pace to break Meyer’s streak, and exceed the 1,000 yard plateau. Hyde sits at 701 yards on the season, having reached that mark in only in six games after he was suspended by Meyer after his involvement in an incident at a Columbus bar in July. After the Buckeyes’ 56-0 victory against Purdue on Saturday, Hyde said his goal to reach 1,000 yards isn’t just about personal achievement.“I really want to get that 1,000 yards,” Hyde told cleveland.com. “Not just for me, but for the offensive line, just to have a 1,000 yard back and for coach Meyer.”Hyde came close in 2012, finishing the season with 970 yards despite missing two games with a sprained MCL.Upon his return from the suspension this season, Hyde was limited in his first game back against Florida A&M Sept. 21, only rushing five times for 41 yards.Since that point though, Hyde has averaged 132 yards per game on the ground. If he keeps it up, this pace will have him at 1,000 yards by the end of the regular season. After the Oct. 5 game against Northwestern, when Hyde led the Buckeyes to a 40-30 comeback victory, Hyde said his play since the suspension has been all about atoning for his mistake.“I missed out on those three games, you know, I can’t get those games back,” Hyde said. “I go out every game with a mindset that I have to make up for those three games … I’m running with a whole different demeanor than what I would have had in the beginning if I didn’t get suspended. I have a different hunger for the game basically.”Against the Wildcats, Hyde ran for a career high 168 yards and three touchdowns, all three of which came with OSU trailing. In the win against Purdue last weekend, Hyde only carried the ball eight times, his lowest total since playing Florida A&M. Despite the lack of touches, the Naples, Fla., native still ran for 111 yards, averaging almost 14 yards per carry.Junior tight end Jeff Heuerman said after the game against the Boilermakers, having explosive players helps open up the field for the rest of the OSU offense.“Like I’ve said before, having a running back like Carlos Hyde and a quarterback like (junior quarterback) Braxton Miller … having all those guys being so productive, it puts me in a position where I can make my block easier sometimes,” Heuerman said.Miller said after the game against Penn State Oct. 26, Hyde has grown up as a player and a leader from last season, with the suspension motivating him to play even harder.“Leadership from where he grew from last year and that little incident he had,” Miller said. “Just felt like he’s got to prove himself even more.”Hyde rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns against Penn State, despite not playing for a majority of the second half.“Carlos didn’t play but two and a half quarters if I remember right. That’s a lot of yards against a team we have a lot of respect for,” Meyer said.Co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Ed Warinner agreed with Meyer, adding that Hyde’s ability helps to motivate the offensive line to play well.“They feed each other. Carlos runs over people and finishes runs and that gets the offensive line fired up and they work even that much harder to create holes, and it’s a highly motivated group,” Warinner said after the Penn State game. With the potential to break the 1,000-yard mark getting closer, Hyde faces a favorable schedule in the coming weeks. The Buckeyes’ next two opponents following the bye week are Illinois and Indiana, currently ranked No. 114 and No. 115, respectively, in the country in rush yards allowed per game. The game against Illinois is scheduled for Nov. 16 in Champaign, Ill., with the Buckeyes returning home the following week for their final home game of the year against Indiana Nov. 23.

Categories: Health, Local San Diego News FacebookTwitter KUSI Newsroom, August 27, 2019 SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – UC San Diego Health announced Tuesday that its surgeons completed Southern California’s first kidney transplant from a deceased donor with HIV to a recipient infected with the virus.UCSD is taking part in a national clinical trial of organ transplants for HIV patients. Such transplants were illegal in the U.S. until 2013, when Congress passed the HIV Organ Policy Equity Act, which allows for the donation of kidneys and livers from one HIV patient to another.UCSD doctors said they expect the kidney recipient to make a full recovery from the procedure, which was done earlier this month.Donor organ shortages are constant and affect HIV patients even more acutely due to longer wait times and a higher likelihood of dying before a donated organ is available, according to UCSD. More than 113,000 Americans are currently in need of an organ transplant.“Patients often wait more than 10 years in California for a deceased donor kidney transplant, and 13 people die nationally each day waiting,” said Dr. Kristin Mekeel, UCSD Health’s chief of transplant surgery. “By expanding donation to donors with HIV, we can get more patients transplanted — sooner — with healthy, functioning kidneys.”The kidney transplant clinical trial, which began last year and includes Johns Hopkins University and 15 other medical centers around the country, will include more than 300 organ transplants to HIV patients. A second clinical trial for liver transplants to HIV patients launched earlier this year. Both trials are currently recruiting and accepting potential organ recipients, according to UCSD.“The overall goals of both trials are to assess the safety of using such organ donations and ultimately increase the number of organ transplants performed in the U.S.” said Saima Aslam, an associate professor of medicine at UCSD.“This trial will also provide a new biorepository of tissue and blood samples to fuel future studies investigating HIV persistence and pathogenesis, and provide an unprecedented opportunity for persons living with HIV to register as organ donors,” Aslam said.
