However, a spokesman said the price range for the IPO has not been set.“A price range has not yet been determined and the information will be distributed through the proper channels when it has been set,” the spokesman said, adding the process was still very much in “its early days”.The IPO comes as Asian capital markets are seeing a flurry of multi-billion deals, helped by a flood of liquidity, low interest rates and strong economic growth. SAV and Blackstone are expected to make a joint offer to current owner Citigroup later this month, according to a report by Sky News. Citi’s auction to sell Egg is thought to be scheduled for November. Privately-owned SAV, which has more than 600,000 customers, has already bought more than half a million credit card loans from Citigroup earlier this year, as part of Citi’s attempts to slim down its non-core operations. Citi bought Egg for £575m in 2007 in a drive to attract more UK customers. Barclays has also been named as a potential bidder for Egg, which still has more than 2m customers in the UK. SAV is backed by a number of investment firms, including Electra Private Equity and Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners, and is chaired by former Standard Chartered chief executive Sir Malcolm Williamson. Spokespeople at Blackstone, SAV and Citigroup declined to comment. last_img read more

Glaxo’s lupus drug cleared by US panel

first_imgTuesday 16 November 2010 9:21 pm KCS-content AN ADVISORY panel for the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last night recommended that the agency approve a new treatment for lupus developed by GlaxoSmithKline (Glaxo) with peer Human Genome Sciences. The committee voted 13-2 in favor of a drug called Benlysta – which analysts estimate could see annual global sales of $2.2bn by 2014 and exceed $5bn by 2020. Profits from the drug would be split equally between currently unprofitable biotech firm Human Genome and Glaxo. The FDA, which should make a decision by early December, isn’t required to follow the advice of its panels, but usually does.Benlysta is important for both companies as it’s one of the most important new drugs in Glaxo’s pipeline and Human Genome has no products on the market. The drug’s success in two large studies has produced consistent speculation that Glaxo would acquire Human Genome. There have been no new treatments in the last few decades for lupus, a disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its own organs and tissues and is most often seen in women of child-bearing age.Symptoms can include fever, swollen joints, skin rashes and severe damage of the kidneys, lungs or central nervous system. US-listed Glaxo’s shares gained 3.4 per cent to $39.85 in after-hours US trading. whatsapp whatsapp Glaxo’s lupus drug cleared by US panel Tags: NULLcenter_img More From Our Partners Florida woman allegedly crashes children’s birthday party, rapes teennypost.comBrave 7-Year-old Boy Swims an Hour to Rescue His Dad and Little Sistergoodnewsnetwork.orgFeds seized 18 devices from Rudy Giuliani and his employees in April raidnypost.comA ProPublica investigation has caused outrage in the U.S. this weekvaluewalk.comI blew off Adam Sandler 22 years ago — and it’s my biggest regretnypost.comRussell Wilson, AOC among many voicing support for Naomi Osakacbsnews.comNative American Tribe Gets Back Sacred Island Taken 160 Years Agogoodnewsnetwork.orgPolice Capture Elusive Tiger Poacher After 20 Years of Pursuing the Huntergoodnewsnetwork.orgAstounding Fossil Discovery in California After Man Looks Closelygoodnewsnetwork.orgWhy people are finding dryer sheets in their mailboxesnypost.comInside Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’ not-so-average farmhouse estatenypost.comMark Eaton, former NBA All-Star, dead at 64nypost.comKiller drone ‘hunted down a human target’ without being told tonypost.comBiden received funds from top Russia lobbyist before Nord Stream 2 giveawaynypost.comSupermodel Anne Vyalitsyna claims income drop, pushes for child supportnypost.comMatt Gaetz swindled by ‘malicious actors’ in $155K boat sale boondogglenypost.com‘The Love Boat’ captain Gavin MacLeod dies at 90nypost.comUK teen died on school trip after teachers allegedly refused her pleasnypost.com Share by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksYou May LikeTotal PastThe Ingenious Reason There Are No Mosquitoes At Disney WorldTotal PastSerendipity TimesInside Coco Chanel’s Eerily Abandoned Mansion Frozen In TimeSerendipity TimesBlood Pressure Solution4 Worst Blood Pressure MedsBlood Pressure Solutionmoneycougar.comThis Proves The Osmonds Weren’t So Innocentmoneycougar.comBlood Pressure For LifeWhy Doctors May No Longer Prescribe Blood Pressure MedsBlood Pressure For LifeLiver Health1 Bite of This Melts Belly And Arm Fat (Take Before Bed)Liver HealthTaonga: The Island FarmThe Most Relaxing Farm Game of 2021. Some 1,800 of Finnair’s and Blue1 cabin crew employees started a strike at 11am after last ditch talks over a new wage deal collapsed overnight.Finnair called off more than 110 flights yesterday, affecting 6,000 passengers. It had already cancelled 200 flights on Monday, involving another 10,000 fliers. An increasing number of passengers were stuck at the Helsinki airport, one of Europe’s top connections to Asia and Russia.Finnair said it would lose €2m to €2.5m (£2.09m) for each day of the work stoppage and now expected a full-year operating loss. It previously expected to be in the black on the operating level in the fourth quarter and in all of 2010, compared with a €171m loss in 2009.Analysts cautioned that the profit warning indicated Finnair was expecting the dispute with its flight attendants could last for an extended period, with most of its planes grounded. by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksYou May LikeMisterStoryWoman Files For Divorce After Seeing This Photo – Can You See Why?MisterStoryTotal PastThe Ingenious Reason There Are No Mosquitoes At Disney WorldTotal PastMoneyPailShe Was Famous, Now She Works In {State}MoneyPailSerendipity TimesInside Coco Chanel’s Eerily Abandoned Mansion Frozen In TimeSerendipity TimesMagellan TimesThis Is Why The Roy Rogers Museum Has Been Closed For GoodMagellan TimesElite HeraldExperts Discover Girl Born From Two Different SpeciesElite HeraldHealthyGem”My 600-lb Life” Star Dropped 420 Pounds, See Her NowHealthyGemZen HeraldNASA’s Voyager 2 Has Entered Deep Space – And It Brought Scientists To Their KneesZen Heraldmoneycougar.comThis Proves The Osmonds Weren’t So Innocentmoneycougar.comlast_img read more

Yet divisions between two opposing members of the committee have deepened and Bank of England governor Mervyn King has faced criticism from fellow MPC voters.American member Adam Posen told MPs that “a number of people on the committee” thought the support for the coalition government’s cuts last spring was “excessively political.”Posen has also argued for a further period of quantitative easing (QE2) in the UK, creating a three way split in the MPC.Andrew Sentance, whose term on the committee expires in May, is expected to again vote for an increase in rates by 0.25 per cent.Sentance has recently repeated his view that the MPC needs to tackle inflation. Consumer price inflation (CPI) rose to 3.2 per cent in October, considerably above the Bank of England’s two per cent target.Yet he is unlikely to be joined by any of his colleagues on the MPC this week, according to Simon Ward of Henderson Global Investors. “When a policy change comes, it will be a mass movement rather than individuals splitting off into factions,” said Ward.Governor King has insisted that medium term inflation is under control. And the Bank’s chief economist Spencer Dale said that while the MPC “remains as hard nosed as ever” on inflation, the “current focus is on providing the stimulus necessary to support the recovery.” Show Comments ▼ whatsapp MPC split but rates stay low last_img read more

Misys hands back £670m

first_img Misys, the software giant that provides financial software to the world’s biggest banks, yesterday returned £670m to its shareholders.Around 170m ordinary shares were tendered and will be repurchased for cancellation at a cost of £525m.A further £145m will be handed back by way of a pro rata return of capital to its shareholders. The share buyback represents almost a third of the firm’s market capitalisation.Last week the firm, led by chief executive Mike Lawrie, reported a rise in new banking orders, saying this is a sign that clients are more upbeat about the future. It forecast banking order intake will reach £41-42m this year, up from £38.1m a year ago. However, it said its first-half performance would be flat after large orders in its Treasury & Capital Markets business were delayed. The company, which sold its Allscripts healthcare unit in June, said adjusted operating profit for the six months to the end of November would be £20-23m, against £21.6m a year earlier, on revenue of £160-162m.It said it expected the delayed deals to close in the second half, and its targets for the two years to the end of May 2012 remained unchanged. It said in September it forecast five to eight per cent revenue growth in the medium term. Republicans still fighting to repeal Obama’s health rules

first_img REPUBLICANS in the House of Representatives plan to hold a vote this month to repeal President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul and say they have nearly enough support to override a presidential veto of the repeal, a top lawmaker said yesterday.“Unpopularity numbers are as high as 60 per cent across the country,” Fred Upton, the incoming chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said of the healthcare law.“I don’t think we’re going to be that far off from having the votes to actually override a veto,” Upton said.Democrats contend Republicans are wasting Congress’ time by staging a healthcare repeal vote, saying it will die in the Democratic-controlled Senate. But Upton said a big House vote for repeal could sway votes in the Senate “to perhaps do the same thing. But then, after that, we’re going to go after this bill piece by piece,” he said, by trying to block various parts of the law including an individual mandate for insurance coverage. But Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Democrat, said on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that people are learning more about benefits of the healthcare law, diminishing chances it will be defeated.“It’s not going to happen,” she said.
