Bethesda says not to expect a new Elder Scrolls games for a
The last Elder Scrolls game to release was The Elder Scrolls Online MMO in April 2014, and before that we had the offline experience of Skyrim released in November 2011. The Elder Scrolls Online is considered a different experience and expected to keep receiving regular updates, so it’s actually been four years since the last “real” entry in the series. But fans should not expect another Elder Scrolls games any time soon.Bethesda is known for focusing the majority of their attention on a single title at any one time. The studio has remained roughly the same size for years, and that is set to continue. So for now, the focus if on Fallout 4, which will see a release later this year and then be supported with multiple DLC releases. That will surely take us most of the way through 2016 before Bethesda even considers starting a new project. So it will likely come as no surprise that Pete Hines, vice president of marketing at Bethesda, has stated that it will be a “very long time” before we even hear about the next project. It may not even be an Elder Scrolls game, but that does seem the most likely focus. If we look back in Bethesda’s history you can see that they started work on Skyrim when Fallout 3 was finished in 2008. Skyrim shipped in 2011 meaning a three year development cycle. Now if we assume Fallout 4 work will be wrapped up in late 2016 and another three year Elder Scrolls dev cycle, that means the next entry probably won’t arrive until 2019, but more likely 2020.I’m sure Bethesda will be hoping you get your Elder Scrolls fix over the next 5 years in The Elder Scrolls Online, but it’s also worth revisiting the older games in the series.
