first_imgWhen it comes to wanting an authentic travel experience, more Australians are travelling to countries in the Eastern Mediterranean, according to new research.A report by Excite Holidays revealed that in the last six months there has been an increase in Australia bookings to Turkey up 71 percent, Croatia up 51 percent, Cyprus up 19 percent, Jordan up 30 percent and Egypt up 171 percent, compared to the same period last year.Moreover, Malta and Morocco have had a significant increase in bookings with a growth of 328 percent and 205 percent respectively.“We are seeing a trend for holidays that allow travellers to immerse themselves in a country’s culture and engage in authentic local interactions and local experiences,” Excite Holidays general manager Joe Karbo said.“Malta is one such example… Although small, Malta offers a diverse and rich history, boasting some of the world’s greatest prehistoric temples, fossil-studded cliffs, hidden coves and exceptional diving opportunities.”The ability to provide authentic experiences, be English-language friendly and offer low-cost travel options have resulted in Malta becoming an appealing destination for many Aussie travellers.Excite Holidays have also witnessed an increase in the amount of bookings to Italy (29 percent), France (59 percent), Spain (48 percent), Portugal (30 percent) and Greece (29 percent), indicating that Europe still remains high on the Aussie traveller’s bucket list.Source = ETB News; LB Bookings increase for the Med as Aussies search for diverse and authentic experiences abroad.
