Survey of Tourism Accommodation saved

first_imgYesterday, the Federal Government announced they would continue funding the ABS’  Survey of Tourism Accommodation, however the Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) has requested long term funding.Hotel and tourism infrastructure development relies heavily on the statistics provided by the ABS to justify investments, so the allocated funding has been welcomed across the industry.Earlier this month the Australian Bureau of Statistics announced they would scrap all funding for the Survey, due to funding constraints.Minister for Trade and Tourism, Andrew Robb, has committed that AusTrade will fund the survey in 2014-15 financial year.TAA managing director, Rodger Powell, said that the continued funding of the survey highlighted Minister Robb’s appreciation of the contribution the accommodation sector makes to economic growth and job creation in Australia.“Minister Robb is overseas selling investment in Australia and knows just how important this information can be,” Mr Powell said. The TAA have stated they understand the government has to reduce spending because of its budgetary concern however they stressed that funding towards the accommodation sector is a necessity.Source = ETB News: Lewis Wisemanlast_img
