first_imgEden Hazard: Biggest difference between Real Madrid and Chelseaby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveEden Hazard admits expectations at Real Madrid are far greater than he experienced with Chelsea. The Belgian star sealed a £130million move to the Bernabeu this summer and has opened up on one of the most striking cultural differences he has spotted already. “At Chelsea when we lost, we were disappointed, like the fans, but I never felt it was a disaster, it’s different in Spain,” Hazard told the Champions Journal, ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.”I think that here the fans are really fans, football is everything to them and they need players to give everything, in England there aren’t so many fans.”Of course, people there like football and everyone be that young people, adults or teenagers are really interested in football, but they aren’t so fanatical about their teams.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgAPTN National NewsOTTAWA–A meeting between Prime Minister Stephen Harper and First Nations leaders is in the works, but it won’t happen before the fall, Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan said Monday.Duncan said the government is involved in talks with Assembly of First Nations national Chief Shawn Atleo and developing an “action plan” to deal with the litany of outstanding issues facing Indigenous communities in the country.“We are having discussions with the national chief. We are looking at an action plan that we can work on together,” said Duncan, during question period responding to a query from Liberal leader Bob Rae. “Part of that dialogue will be to discuss this very gathering that the member is bringing up. So, that is something we will flesh-out over the next period of time. Hopefully we will come to something quite solid in the fall.”Rae was taking aim at the Conservatives over their failure to deal with poverty in the country.“In light of the statements by the government with respect to its desire to improve the conditions of Aboriginal people, I would say that Chief Atleo, in his statements on the Speech from the Throne, made it very clear that…the meeting had to take place on a government-to-government basis, on a basis that fully respects the jurisdiction of First Nations and Aboriginal people.”Harper has already expressed his interest in meeting with First Nations leaders and directed his officials in the Prime Minister’s Office and in Duncan’s office to explore the issue, according to a Dec. 8, 2010 letter to Atleo.“With respect to the proposed Crown-First Nations gathering, I remain open to participating and I ask that you work with my office and minister Duncan’s office to assess the viability of such an event,” said Harper in the letter.Harper’s letter followed an Oct. 28, 2010, meeting with Atleo where the prime minister pledged his support for improving reserve education.last_img read more

The provision to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to drilling and oil exploration passed with the bill. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) wrote the ANWR measure in the bill. first_img Disney Star Wars Director Ron Howard, who took over after the original directors left, had already noticed how Solo was catching on after its digital release in September. He tweeted about how the movie’s Rotten Tomatoes audience score was creeping higher. All the Star Wars movies, from the cheesy to great, ranked Solo wasn’t a box-office hero but it still earned a lot of fan love. Walt Disney Pictures/Lucasfilm Solo: A Star Wars Story arrived in May 2018 and quickly became the lowest-grossing Star Wars film in recent memory. But sometimes bummers turn into runners. A year later, Star Wars fans are rallying for a sequel to young Han Solo’s story. Box Office Mojo shows Solo pulled in under $400 million worldwide. Compare that with The Last Jedi in 2017, which banked over $1.3 billion. It’s no wonder Disney didn’t rush in with sequel plans. Some fans attributed the poor showing to the marketing campaign or fan anger over the events of The Last Jedi. As it turns out, Solo was a fun romp of a film with engaging performances from Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. The hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen hit the trending charts on Twitter on Thursday with a push from Star Wars News Net and its Resistance Broadcast podcast. TV and Movies Star Wars fans were ready to get on board, tweeting their support for a movie sequel or a streaming series on Disney Plus. first_imgRecaptured drug lord Joaquin `El Chapo` Guzman is escorted by soldiers at the hangar belonging to the office of the attorney general in Mexico City, Mexico on 8 January 2016. Photo: ReutersJoaquin Guzman, the Mexican drug lord known as “El Chapo,” entered a Colorado prison known as “the Alcatraz of the Rockies” on Friday to begin a life sentence after being found guilty of a raft of crimes including conspiracy to commit murder.Guzman was sentenced to life in prison, plus 30 years, on Wednesday in a federal court in the New York borough of Brooklyn. A jury convicted him of drug trafficking and engaging in multiple murder conspiracies as the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of Mexico’s largest, most violent drug-trafficking organizations.”We can confirm that Joaquin Guzman is in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons at United States Penitentiary (USP) Administrative Maximum (ADX) Florence, located in Florence, Colorado,” the US Bureau of Prisons said in a statement. The high-security “Supermax” prison, 115 miles (185 km) south of Denver with about 375 inmates, has never had an escape since it opened in 1994.Guzman twice escaped maximum-security prisons in Mexico and was re-captured in 2016. He was extradited to the United States in 2017 to face US charges.Guzman, 62, joins a long list of notorious criminals who call the prison home. They include “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski on 11 September conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui, Terry Nichols from the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The prison is nicknamed “Alcatraz of the Rockies” after the San Francisco prison whose inmates included the gangster Al Capone and convicted murderer Robert Franklin Stroud, known as the Birdman of Alcatraz.Like other prisoners, Guzman will likely be confined for around 23 hours a day to a solitary cell that has a narrow window about 42 inches (107 cm) high and angled upward so only the sky is visible. His cell is expected to have a television, providing him access to religious services and educational programs.Special restrictions are used to ensure that inmates cannot exert influence or make threats beyond prison walls. Prisoners cannot move around without being escorted. Head counts are done at least six times a day.Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Thursday called it “inhumane” for Guzman to face life imprisonment under harsh conditions.last_img
